I tried uploading my own music to Funkwhale but all upload seem to error. So I was wondering if that’s actually supported or if the funkwhale instance is only meant to follow other libraries
Yes, it should be fine to upload MP3, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC and most of the popular formats. The only limits is that each user has a quota of 250GB and each file is at most 150MB in size.
Can you tell me where you are located. I have noticed that when I try to upload too many files at the same time, the funkwhale uploader doesn’t handle network errors well, so if you have a spotty connection, it would be wise to try first to upload only one single file and then increase the amount of files uploaded at the same time until you start getting errors.
If you are still experiencing problems and/or you have a large library, I can look into setting up an import tool based on something like FTP to make sure the Funkwhale uploader itself is out of the loop.
Thanks for your kind reply.
In my case, when I tried, it seemed that the upload succeeds, but the processing fails.
With MP3 it immediately failed, while for OGG it’s in “Pending” import status for 6 days (it still is)
Today I retried and the MP3 after seeing your message and it worked for mp3
Yes, the uploader tool seems to have some issues. There is a button to clear the processing queue and to try it again. I have mostly MP3s and FLACs on my music collection, but I will try to upload some ogg files to confirm if they work.
